Media Alert: Protecting Your Network from the Blaster Worm

 • 15 August, 2003 13:31

Microsoft is currently working to ensure that its customers have access to patches for the W32.Blaster.Worm. To date there has been a lot of information on what consumers can do to protect their PCs. We would also like to advise that information is available for network administrators on how to protect their systems.

Microsoft has made available for download a network scanning tool for network administrators that can be used to identify host computers that do not have the Blaster worm security patch (823980 MS03-026) installed. It is available at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=826369.

For step-by-step guidance on how to install the patch for the Blaster worm, we advise administrators to visit www.microsoft.com/security. Due to the high level of demand, this site may be slower than usual. In response, Microsoft has set up an alternative website: www.microsoft.com.au/downloads.
