Melbourne hosts ICANN do

The first 2001 meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) opens in Melbourne this weekend with more than 400 Internet stakeholders from around the globe in attendance.

To be held from March 10 to 13 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre topics on the agenda for ICANN range from intellectual property to government control.

As the technical co-ordination body for the Internet ICANN will bring together administrators, educators, businesses, governments and users.

ICANN sponsors include the National Office for the Information Economy (NOIE), Telstra, Cisco Systems and VeriSign.

The meeting will be Web cast across the globe and an overview of the schedule is available at the Melbourne ICANN Web site
