A new service being trialled in Australia before its launch in the US promises to pay people for reading e-mail. In what sounds like a consumer's dream, EmailCash said it will send to subscribers one advertising e-mail a day targeted at their stated preferences.
Subscribers (if that's the right word) list their areas of interest and will only receive ads in those areas.
EmailCash said it would start the scheme when it had reached a base membership of 50,000. It expects to reach this target by mid-October.
The company said it was simply redistributing some of the money it will charge advertisers back to the subscribers.
