ACCPAC seeks new resellers in e-biz push

ACCPAC International has foreshadowed a rise in its reseller headcount despite indicating the move might make it unpopular with existing partners. ACCPAC International's CEO, David Hood, said the company is looking to broaden its reseller base and increase the `level of commitment' from its distributors ahead of two new product releases.

Hood was in Australia recently to address delegates during the Sydney leg of the company's worldwide partnership conference ACCPAC '99.

ACCPAC currently has 60 business partners in Australia and another 20 in New Zealand. Its primary distributor in Australia is 1World.

The company's products are typically used in accounting applications, electronic funds transfer, electronic invoice and payroll payments, and direct customer debits.

`Frankly, I don't know how my business partners will like the increase,' he said, indicating some could see it as more competition. However, Hood indicated that additional partners are part of the company's growth strategy. `Our partners are our business,' he said.

The new version of the company's ACCPAC for Windows, code-named ACCPAC Integrated, is designed for the low-end SME market. The product is designed to take the most commonly used accounting modules of ACCPAC for Windows and integrate them together in one package at roughly half the cost of the full version. ACCPAC Integrated is currently undergoing beta testing in the US and will be available in three months.

The product is currently undergoing beta testing and is expected to be available by the end of the year. Hood explained the new releases are designed to realign the company around an e-business model.

In addition to out-of-the-box solutions, the company works with a developer community of around 300 companies to build value-added modules and applets around the software. `One of our strengths is we have a very superior architecture,' he said.

Hood added that in the future the company will move to address opportunities offered by `apps on tap', otherwise known as the ASP model.
