Storage company EMC has laid out an initial road map for integrating the recently acquired Data General.
EMC plans to expand its role in the midrange storage market by rolling Data General's Clariion systems into its own offerings. Data General, which will develop and sell the high-end Aviion server line as an independent unit, will focus on Windows NT systems and supporting Unix customers, the company said in a statement.
Ronald L Skates, former Data General president and chief executive officer, will retire soon after helping with the transition, the company said.
EMC also made several key executive appointments, naming Robert M Dutkowsky president of EMC's Data General division. He has spent the past two years as EMC's executive vice president for markets and channels. Frank M Hauck will serve as senior vice president and Data General integration leader. Hauck has been with EMC for nine years, most recently as senior vice president for global customer service.
EMC's 1998 revenues were around $US4 billion.
