Scott McNealy, chairman and chief executive officer of Sun Microsystems, has been appointed to the board of directors of General Electric.
McNealy, 44, co-founded Sun in 1982 and became company CEO two years later. Sun posted revenue of $US11.7 billion last year.
The Sun head's appointment to the board can be seen as one of GE's moves to more closely ally itself to Internet developments. On a recent trip to Thailand, Jack Welch, GE's chairman and CEO said that electronic commerce is his company's prime objective worldwide.
