FRAMINGHAM (05/03/2000) - BMC Software Inc. wants to help its users improve the performance of their Web sites.
To that end, BMC Tuesday announced the roughly $100 million purchase of Evity, an Internet management service provider. In particular, BMC wants Evity's SiteAngel 2000 Web site measurement service.
SiteAngel simulates transactions, such as the purchase of a book. It measures the performance times for each step of the process, from the initial click to the credit-card verification to the end of the sale. The simulation is repeated at set times in the day and measured against preset benchmarks. The information is passed back to the IS staff.
BMC intends to offer Evity's service to its customers as an add-on to its Patrol line of e-commerce management products. If a BMC user sees that e-commerce customers are not getting the requisite level of performance, they can use Patrol to analyze and fix the problem. However, users of other management products such as Tivoli will be able use the SiteAngel service, as well.
The SiteAngel service is available now; an annual subscription costs $6,000.www.bmc.com.
