Linuxcare expands services worldwide

Linuxcare yesterday announced plans to open nine global service centres in an effort to expand its services for customers that use Linux worldwide.

The service centres will focus on areas such as parallel computing and clustering, application porting, and custom versions of Linux and Linux applications. The company also said it has signed a new contract with Dell Computer expanding the services that it currently offers to Dell's Linux customers.

Linuxcare also said it has acquired the Puffin Group, an Ottawa-based company that is working with Hewlett-Packard to port Linux to HP's Unix servers.

In addition, Linuxcare has completed a second round of funding, valued at $US32.5 million.

Backers include Sun Microsystems, Dell and Oracle.
