• KDE releases 4.7 for refined user experience

  The KDE open source project has released version 4.7 of its KDE Software Compilation (SC) suite debuting support for the new Telepathy unified communications infrastructure and a new level of user experience, according to its developers.

  Qt Software, a division Nokia, has released Qt 4.5.0, the first major release of the cross-platform GUI toolkit to be licensed under the LGPL and it ships with a new IDE for a complete SDK.

  Internet telephony software company Skype is pushing ahead with videoconferencing in a bigger way with the release of version 4.0 for Windows, but the company is yet to standardise its releases for Linux and Mac OS X.

  The Ubuntu Mobile operating system is undergoing its most radical change with a port to the ARM processor for Internet devices and netbooks, and may use Nokia's LGPL Qt development environment as an alternative to GNOME.
