Australian Customs Service has spent $4.1 million on a new Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) to replace its 20-year-old legacy application.

The new LogicaCMG system will be rolled out later this year to replace the old system, while electronic document management will be implemented as a second phase during 2008.

The Open Text Corporation's LiveLink ECM-eDocs software will be used to implement the system throughout the three-year contract, while LogicaCMG will supply, implement, and support the project.

Customs CIO Murray Harrison said the solution was chosen because it supports Customs' Records and Information Management System (RIMS) Project, and meets the departments statutory requirements, functionality and relevant standards for record keeping.

"The RIMS project, when fully implemented, will ensure recordkeeping in Customs satisfies legislative obligations and contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations," Harrison said.

The EDRMS was chosen following a tender launched in Novemeber 2005.
