A number of federal government departments have introduced policy management software to comply with new communications security requirements issued by the Australian Defence Signals Directorate (DSD).
Both the Department of Transport and Regional Services and the Department of Environment and Heritage are using Titus Labs' Message Classification software.
DSD recently updated the Information and Communications Technology Security Manual (ACSI 33), which specifies an Electronic Mail Protective Marking Policy for all Australian government agencies.
The most recent policy specifies that all agency-originated e-mails that contain security-classified information must include a protective marking that identifies the maximum classification and set of caveats for the information.
In addition, agencies must ensure that all agency-originated e-mails that do not contain any classified information are marked with an appropriate protective marking such as Unclassified or Personal.
