Fortinet® - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions - has today announced the top 10 most reported high-risk threats for June 2008, and a major upgrade to their FortiGuard online resource centre. Gaming related threats were the most active malware family in June 2008, making up more than 35 percent of total threats.
Charles Cote, Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand commented, "Many Australian and New Zealand businesses are looking for ways to simplify complexity, and reduce the cost of running their IT security systems. Fortinet's unified threat management appliances allow businesses to automatically protect themselves from the latest threats, with updates pushed out from our FortiGuard service. This latest upgrade to our FortiGuard service will help our customers to further reduce the amount of time and effort needed to keep their businesses safe."
The FortiGuard Center (www.fortiguardcenter.com) is Fortinet's threat update and security research hub, where visitors and customers can find timely threat and vulnerability information, as well as advisories, trend reports, and deep threat analysis. The FortiGuard Center will now include:
* Enhanced Vulnerability Coverage, including a summary of new and recently modified vulnerabilities, as well as details of threat activity. This additional level of information will allow customers to fine tune security settings, and focus on active threats
* IPS Service Update History - A historical listing of all modifications in the Intrusion Prevention System package
* Antivirus Top Threats - Top threats in virus/spyware, mobile phone, PDA, and Instant Messaging (IM) threats. Phishing threats will now be included in the updated antivirus page
* Mobile Threat Description Index - A listing of the current FortiGuard antivirus coverage of mobile threats

"It's no surprise to see malicious online gaming activity circle the globe to cast a bigger net for financial gain," said Derek Manky, security researcher for Fortinet. "With the online gaming market thriving with consumers, malicious activity will very likely continue for some time in this emerging sector as it forms a viable target."
As individual threats, the most active online gaming Trojans took the second and fourth positions on Fortinet's global list of Top Ten threats. Gaming related threats were the most active malware family, making up more than 35 percent of total threats for the month.
