Com Tech has joined the Application Service Provider (ASP) game from afar, leasing its data centre facilities to budding service providers.

Operating as Managed IT with first partner, financial services provider Professional Advantage, the venture has signed up its first client, recruitment consultancy SDI Asia Pacific.

"Com Tech is working with organisations that want to become ASPs," said Guy Jacobson, general manager of enterprise management services at Com Tech.

"It's not an exclusive arrangement [with Professional Advantage]," he said.

"As IT becomes more complex, you need better skills to support the process," said Jonathan Klug, director of Managed IT.

"All the hassles are passed onto the data centre, and that allows the enterprise to focus on the core business."

Professional Advantage is providing the applications and support, while Com Tech is providing infrastructure support, Jacobson said.

Com Tech will host Professional Advantage's financial applications at its existing data centre in Sydney and also at a planned centre in Melbourne.

Com Tech is planning an new data centre in the outer Sydney suburbs, Jacobson said. Managed IT is also partnering with Telstra on the deal with SDI.

Com Tech is currently in discussions with other organisations for the applications hosting service.
