Big Blue introduces B-to-B security initiatives
Kathleen Ohlson 23/08/2001 08:28:00

IBM Corp. Wednesday announced a set of initiatives based on Identrus, a standard for online identity trust and user authentication, to bolster security for its financial services customers.

The Identrus Trust System use smart card technology, public-key infrastructure, digital signatures and other encryption methods to secure business-to-business Internet transactions such as business proposal requests, payments and e-mail correspondence. The system was developed by 47 financial institutions, including Deutsche Bank AG, Barclays Bank PLC, Bank of America Corp. and Chase Manhattan Corp.

Big Blue will open a testing facility to ensure applications are Identrus-certified, IBM said in a statement Wednesday. The IBM Security and Privacy Services trusted e-business testing lab will be located in Gaithersburg, Md.

IBM also announced that its flagship WebSphere software, DB2 Universal Database and eServer hardware are now Identrus-compliant.
