Robots set for smack-down in US

The RoboGames Texas Cup set for October 18th and 19th at the second annual Austin Maker Faire features over 27 bots, weighing 13 to 155 kilos scrapping in featherweight, lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight, and super heavyweight divisions. With over 25 fights per day, audiences will be treated to all manner of robotic pugilism from giant pneumatic flippers, flame throwers and "spinning blades of death" to body slammers and nasty spikes. Here we take a look at the top 5 big boys -- the super heavyweight battle robots. Ziggy: The gold medal winner of last year's RoboGames. The superheavyweight bot looks a bit like an iRobot Roomba on steroids. It uses its low center of gravity to get under opponents and knocks them out with a pneumatic punch. See Ziggy in action here. Vladiator: See Vladiator in action here Gerald: Gerald took the silver medal in the most recent RoboGames and his star seems to be rising. The bot uses a kinetic wedge to pulverize opponents. Reign: Another robot wars veteran, the Judge uses a pneumatic hammer to render decisions upon his prey.
