SharePoint Portal Server User Groups have been launched in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. The groups are for users of the SharePoint platform from portal vendor Unique World which opened an office in Melbourne this week. The company's CEO Eddie Geller said five years ago the trend was to create intranets which were limited to only content rich Web sites with little or no document collaboration or integration into existing systems. "Organizations today are now into their third generation intranets and are demanding applications that bring together many back-end systems into one dashboard-type interface, transitioning data into knowledge, which in turn accelerates productivity for the users," Geller said. The opening of the Melbourne office coincides with recent contract wins with AGL, Victorian Police, Reuters and Keycorp. The company has 50 staff with technical architect Rainer Bryce heading up the Melbourne team.
