Grants announced to support high performance computing
Projects cover visualization, grid and large scale storage
Sandra Rossi 11/09/2007 09:24:00

The hub of advanced computing in Western Australia, iVEC, is making available $200,000 worth of grants for industry and government organizations for the application of high performance computing, visualization and large scale data store technology.

The iVEC grants provide an opportunity for organisations to experiment with technology that can improve and streamline their business processes.

iVEC board member, Kevin Chennell, said the grants will be made available to large companies, agencies, even individuals considering a start up business to safely trial, with expert help, the power and capacity of HPC, visualization, grid and large scale storage.

"Previous grants have demonstrated that these technologies can change the way agencies and companies do business and that they can add value and competitiveness," he said.

"I look forward to a wide range of project proposals in this round and encourage innovation and freshness in their design."

iVEC will co-fund several projects, with interested organisations and their partners contributing between $20 000 and $50 000 in cash and a similar figure in-kind. iVEC would match these contributions.

Applications close on October 19, 2007 and projects will commence in 2008.

iVEC is a joint venture between CSIRO, Central TAFE, Curtin University of Technology, The University of Western Australia and Murdoch University and is supported by the Western Australian Government.
