Tax Office calls on mainframe skills
Greying skill set not yet obsolete
Rodney Gedda 30/08/2007 10:58:52

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will hire another mainframe administrator to assist with the operations of its mainframe applications during its change program.

The developer products branch in the information and communications technology (ICT) business line is seeking to engage a senior mainframe technical specialist to support the implementation and day-to-day use of the mainframe products and change program.

This branch supports development tools, multi-platform infrastructure, processes and technologies in a "highly demanding and complex environment".

It is unclear if the position is related to Canberra's skills shortage, but the starting date for the initial 12-month contract is on or before October 1, 2007.

The position is located in Canberra and the contract includes the possibility of a 12-month extension option.

Responsibilities include supporting mainframe development and associated technologies, including MVS/CICS, COBOL, DB2, and MQ Series. Other technologies include Ascential Extract Transform Load (ETL) tools, EAI, and WebSphere.

The candidate will require the Highly Protected Security clearance and be expected to transfer skills to ATO staff via "planning, structuring, and documenting".

"Additionally they will be required to facilitate, contribute to and/or run technical and non-technical meetings, forums, training sessions and workshops," according to the ATO.
