Today, IBM will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of its AlphaWorks organization, which makes early code available to developers around the world inside and outside of IBM.

IBM is also pledging to announce at its San Francisco event "a new way of delivering these emerging technologies into the hands of businesses, developers and universities."

AlphaWorks has featured work in areas such as Java, grid computing, Eclipse and autonomic computing.

The company claims that 40 percent of the technologies posted to the AlphaWorks Web site have wound up in IBM products or been licensed to others.
