March 13, 2008, Sydney – Tandberg Data, a leading global supplier of backup and archiving technologies, today introduced the Tandberg Viking FS-1610 NAS, a comprehensive data storage, backup and recovery network-attached solution that allows file-sharing in heterogeneous environments.
Powered by Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 or Windows Unified Data Storage Server 2003, the Viking FS-1610 NAS ensures ease of deployment, flexibility and seamless integration to a customer’s network environment.
Users familiar with the Windows environment can easily configure the NAS system. The Viking FS-1610 NAS offers users the flexibility to select the desired operating platform based on their requirements. For example, the Viking FS-1610 NAS with WUDSS 2003 is able to provide an iSCSI-SAN solution (as target) for remote servers and clients.
“As backup windows continue to shrink and rapid file restore is more critical than ever, IT departments need storage solutions that meet the increasing demands of end users who need to share files in heterogeneous environments,” says Mr Tan Kok Peng, Technical Development Manager for Tandberg Data. “The Tandberg Viking FS-1610 NAS is designed with this in mind, to provide a broad spectrum of file management and data protection capabilities.”
The Tandberg Viking FS-1610 NAS also offers quick-restore functionality via Recovery DVD image, and also allows users to customise different RAID levels for protecting the operating system partitions. When the Tandberg Viking FS-1610 NAS needs to be restored, the Recovery DVD image brings it back to a factory default within minutes.
Ease of Backup and Archiving
The Tandberg Viking FS-1610 NAS offers connectivity support for external tape units or tape autoloaders via its Ultra320 SCSI controller, which allows direct connection to a tape device, autoloader or library.
“This makes it the perfect device to enhance data protection and offline staging for restoration or archiving,” says Mr Tan Kok Peng. “The Tandberg Viking FS-1610 NAS can be implemented as a second tiered storage device, a backup server, or a centralised file-sharing device.”
Pricing and Availability The Tandberg Viking FS-1610 NAS device is currently available in Australia and New Zealand through Tandberg Data’s established channel of distribution and reseller partners. Pricing is available on request.
