Council awards document management system contract

NSW's largest inland local government agency Wagga Wagga City Council has signed a contract for a document management system.

Slated to go live in October, the council will use the document management system to better serve its 60,000 residents. As part of the system council staff will be able to simultaneously access information and organise data through workflow, imaging and storage more efficiently.

Queensland-based Advanced Data Integration (ADI) developed the document management system DataWorks, which it claims is used by more than 100 councils across Australia and New Zealand.

Eventually Wagga Wagga Council wants to provide its residents with information via the Web. "If a customer wants to track a building application, for example, it will be simply a matter of logging onto the council Web site and calling up the information," said Brian Pearson, director of support services at the council.

Besides the software and its use in other councils across the country, Pearson cited ADI's "partnership" approach to the intended project as the reason for its selection.
