Vic Human Services enters $30m services contract
Five-year deal will manage 800 servers, two SANs

Victoria's Department of Human Services (DHS) has awarded a $30 million contract to Fujitsu to deliver managed services to HealthSmart, the state's overall health ICT initiative.

The contract was awarded to Fujitsu after a tender process and will extend over five years and total $30.8 million.

Under the terms of the agreement, Fujitsu will provide a range of managed services, including 24x7 server and storage monitoring and management, network management, service desk support, technical advice, and security administration in the production and non-production environments.

Fujitsu will eventually manage more than 800 servers, as well as two multi-terabyte storage area networks, in one of the largest government-run, shared services environments in Australia, according to the company.

The vendor has developed a solution to actively monitor and manage the computer server and storage environments of HealthSmart's core applications.

The solution will contribute to HealthSmart's aim of improving patient care, reducing the administrative burden on health care professionals, and easing the costs associated with updating technical infrastructure within the public health care system by adopting a more standardized approach to information systems.

Fujitsu will also support a range of HealthSmart applications including the patient and client management systems applications TrakHealth and iSOFT, clinical systems application Cerner, Oracle financials, payroll provider Frontier Software, and the integration tool, SeeBeyond.

Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand CEO Rod Vawdrey said HealthSmart is a good example of a state-wide program which aligns IT to the overall objectives of the organization.
