Online liquor ordering via a business-to-business portal for the hospitality industry is being piloted by Lion Nathan, Southcorp and United Distillers.
The project, Artesian Innovation, will enable users to order online using a real-time credit card facility that connects directly to the Australian Eftpos Network using 128-bit encryption.
"Artesian will have an unrivalled selection of brands and provide the hospitality industry with a convenient, secure environment to order products and services via the Internet," Artesian said in a statement.
Web services company XT3 developed the site using Microsoft technology, including a commerce server, SQL server and Internet Information Server.
According to XT3, the site's business logic is encapsulated in a set of custom-written COM objects managed by Microsoft Transaction Server -- providing both performance and scalability for the site.
"The administration section of the site has been built to enable Artesian Innovation to manage the entire site, from customer management to order processing and warehouse management," XT3 said.
The service is currently only available in Sydney.
