The former COO of the ANZ Bank David Boyle has been appointed interim CIO at AGL.
The gas and electricity provider today confirmed the high profile IT executive has been appointed to the position while AGL continues its search for a permanent CIO.
Boyle only recently announced his semi-retirement from the corporate landscape reflecting on the highs and lows of his outstanding career in an interview in this month's CIO Magazine.
Boyle is obviously not ready to make a complete exit from the corporate world just yet and the 'interim' AGL appointment fits with his career plans outlined in the article in which he states that he was determined to 'semi-retire' around his 55th birthday.
If the article is any indication of how he will tackle his new appointment at AGL then the gas and electricity provider can expect Boyle to rein in costs and establish a close working relationship with business heads.
Identifying the great qualities of an effective CIO Boyle told CIO Magazine: "I believe that anybody coming into the CIO role in any major company today has to have an incredible understanding of costs and cost control and quality. I don't think people can ignore the quality side."
Referring to software development as an engineering issue, not an art, Boyle spearheaded the use of CMM (capability maturing model) at the ANZ Bank and is a firm believer in the use of quality software development models for project control and to avoid system blow-ups. His leadership skills allowed him to leave a lasting legacy at ANZ by putting in place a five year road map prior to his depature.
Boyle revamped the bank's IT infrastructure and one of his most notable projects was the introduction of a transparent billing system.
Prior to joining ANZ Boyle was a senior VP at the Bank of America and global systems and operations VP at the American Express Travellers Cheque Group.
