InfoWorld staff (InfoWorld) 25/01/2005 09:36:44

Sun Microsystems this week announced a java-based product that enables suppliers to switch from tagging their products with traditional bar codes to RFID technology.

The Sun Java System RFID Tag and Ship product is targeted at companies looking to comply with RFID mandates from retailers including Wal-Mart Stores and Target.

In addition to Sun software customised for this offering, the RFID product includes a Sun W2100z workstation and monitor, the Sun Java System RFID Software, a Printronix RFID printer, an RFID reader, and a bar-code reader. Sun will announce pricing for Tag and Ship shortly, and the product will be available this quarter.
