Telstra opens new Sydney network management centre
New facility result of 18 months of planning and development

Telstra has opened its new managed network operations centre (NOC) in Sydney’s CBD to manage some 1100 corporate networks for its enterprise and government customers.

The new NOC offers a range of network services such as monitoring and management of about 37,000 devices located on customer premises.

With a 16.7 meter video screen, the NOC is the third largest (in width across) in Australia, according to Telstra, and provides up to 42 network engineers with a “health check” of the company’s core network and the networks of enterprise customers.

Telstra Networks and Services group managing director Michael Rocca said the NOC is a product of the company’s IT transformation strategy and represents 18 months of planning and development.

“The new NOC will manage enterprise customer networks and consolidate skills as it is linked back to our global NOC in Victoria,” Rocca said. “By providing greater visibility into their network, customers now have the ability to isolate faults faster in order to minimise the impact of network related issues to their business operations.”

Telstra is also using videoconferencing and digital whiteboards to collaborate on network problem resolution.

With some 600 network management staff, Telstra is confident it can provide 99.999 percent uptime for its customers.
