The University of Queensland Union (UQU) will deploy a new retail solution for 17 retail and eateries across its three campuses, based on locally developed technology.

UQU selected software from the Sydney-based Centaman Systems to run and manage its retail outlets, which will also be used by the union's marketing group to manage events, bookings and functions.

UQU's financial services manager, Trish Whellum, said the organization was looking for a single solution that would provide it with the flexibility to manage all of its business trading requirements.

"We looked at a number of different products and Centaman was the only company that was willing to go that extra mile to make sure our needs were met," Whellum said. "We were very impressed with the feedback we received from existing clients of Centaman, including individual users. They all spoke highly of the Centaman product and of the customer service and support they received."

Centaman Systems is a Microsoft partner and develops its software using Microsoft technologies like SQL Server, Terminal Server, and Office.

The company's CEO Mark Iles said UQU joins other educational institutes that have chosen Centaman as it continues to expand its presence into the sector.

Centaman Systems has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth as well as distributors in New Zealand and Hong Kong and a base of clients in the leisure, tourism, local government, and education markets.
