Riverbed Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: RVBD), the performance leader in wide-area data services (WDS), and CommVault® (NASDAQ: CVLT) announced today that the two companies have teamed to provide customers with solutions to accelerate enterprise data performance.

The combination of CommVault’s SimpanaTM suite of enterprise data and information management software and Riverbed’s wide-area data services (WDS) solutions gives companies of all sizes near-continuous data protection (near-CDP) capabilities to reliably, cost-effectively and securely protect remote office data.

Zycko, which distributes both Riverbed® and CommVault products, is a firm believer in implementing the technology best practices that they preach to their customers. As a Riverbed/CommVault user, Zycko utilises the joint solution to optimise its own inter-site network activity, enabling a centralised application strategy and delivering continuous data protection.

“We use Riverbed in conjunction with CommVault to deliver our own centralised backup strategy, in which Riverbed and CommVault provide a comprehensive data protection solution,” said David Galton-Fenzi, group sales director at Zycko. “Deploying Riverbed and CommVault significantly accelerates our data backup, decreasing the window from 39 hours down to eight hours for a full backup and as low as four hours for an incremental backup. This enables a far more efficient strategy for us, where we can complete full backups each night, rather than having a single backup take more than one and a half days. Now, using CommVault and Riverbed, our centralised backup strategy is a reality.”

Arun Taneja, principal at the Taneja Group, had this to say about the combined solution of Riverbed and CommVault: “Continuous data protection and the elimination of tapes from remote sites are a must-have for any organisation that relies on information for daily operations. Together, CommVault and Riverbed deliver a solution that can ensure the integrity of data, while reducing costs and management overhead.”

By providing a single, simple way to manage file system data and storage wherever it resides, CommVault Simpana software provides high performance data protection, availability and accessibility in the most popular computing environments. Riverbed’s Steelhead® WDS appliances speed the performance of applications between distributed sites by five to 50 times and in some cases up to 100 times, enabling organisations to overcome a host of severe problems, including poor application performance and insufficient bandwidth at remote locations.

“CommVault and Riverbed offer customers complementary solutions that enable more efficient management of data and optimised storage utilisation,” said Eric Rice, senior director, strategic alliances, CommVault. “CommVault provides the data protection, archiving and search capabilities customers need to protect and discover mission critical data, while Riverbed speeds the movement and storage of this data. Together, CommVault and Riverbed are better able to meet customers’ operational needs with a single storage solution that improves overall data management efficiency.”

The combination of the speed delivered by Riverbed’s WDS solutions and the availability, simplicity and cost-effectiveness of CommVault’s Simpana software suite enables organisations with distributed locations to ensure high performance protection, universal availability and simplified management of complex storage networks. CommVault enables fast and efficient disk-to-disk backup and when combined with Riverbed’s Steelhead appliances, the performance improvement of backups can be further reduced by approximately four to 34 times, enabling customers to reduce the time to replicate data and backups from hours to minutes and minutes to seconds. In addition, the Steelhead appliances reduce any CommVault disk-to-disk backup data moved over the network by up to 88 percent, allowing organisations to more effectively leverage their existing bandwidth and avoid costly network upgrades.

“Highly efficient and effective backup and recovery of data is a must-have for organisations of all sizes,” said Venugopal Pai, senior director, alliances at Riverbed. “As a leading provider of data management solutions, CommVault is ideally suited to meeting the needs of these companies. Working together, we are able to improve the performance of critical backup and recovery systems by maximising existing infrastructure.”

Participating in the Riverbed Technology Alliance, CommVault and Riverbed have teamed to deliver joint solutions though co-marketing and sales programs. Riverbed is already a member in CommVault’s PartnerAdvantage™ program, and as a Strategic Partner, Riverbed also gains access to CommVault’s technical, marketing and sales forces to deliver enterprise customers joint data protection and management solutions.
