The NSW Department of Education and Training has placed its first purchase order for the School News Channel attendance management suite designed by MGM Wireless (ASX: MWR).

The department recently awarded a contract to MGM through a tender process.

The School News Channel is designed to improve school attendance by setting up an easy point of contact between parents and teachers, and allowing parents to more affectively monitor their childrens' attendance habits.

The department has expressed a desire to make the service available to as many of the 2,300 schools in the state as possible, spokespeople for MGM said.

MGM currently has a customer base of over 35% of the approximately 9,500 schools in the country.
