Indian outsourcer Satyam Computer Services plans to train over 1,500 staff over the next two years on software and technologies from business software vendor SAP in a move to meet growing demand worldwide for consultants certified on SAP software.
Satyam is setting up a SAP training academy in collaboration with the Indian subsidiary of SAP of Walldorf, Germany, the Indian company said Wednesday. Of the 1,500 new consultants to be trained, about 750 consultants will be certified on SAP's NetWeaver integration and application server middleware.
Satyam, which is based in Hyderabad, India, is a large global implementation partner for SAP, according to Anand Ekambaram, director for education services at SAP India. SAP is helping Satyam build a pool of consultants to support its software implementations and other services, he said. Expertise on SAP technology will also help companies like Satyam build applications around SAP's NetWeaver and ESA (Enterprise Services Architecture), he added.
Indian outsourcing companies are becoming increasingly important to the global SAP services market because they can offer lower cost services by using a mix of on-shore and offshore delivery of services and also because many of their customers worldwide are SAP customers, Ekambaram said.
The German business software vendor is planning training agreements similar to the one with Satyam with two other large Indian outsourcers, Ekambaram added.
Satyam currently has 3,000 staff in its SAP practice. Under an agreement with Satyam, SAP India will provide specially designed training modules for basic and advanced education in SAP solutions. Trainers from around the globe will lead the sessions at the Satyam learning centers, created specifically for these kinds of programs, Satyam said.
Satyam has placed a strong focus on its enterprise resource planning (ERP) practice around software from vendors such as SAP and Oracle.
