SuSE CTO Juergen Geck is planning to leave Novell at the end of the month.
Novell has been beleaguered with executive departures, especially those from SuSE, which the company acquired in 2004.
Geck, described as a big picture guy, is the fifth Linux executive to leave Novell in the last year. His departure follows that of David Patrick, vice president and general manager of the Linux, Open Source Platforms and Services Group at Novell. Before that, Patrick was the CEO of Ximian, a company Novell acquired in August 2003.
In November 2005, SuSE co-founder Hubert Mantel left the company saying that Novell/SuSE "is no longer the company I founded 13 years ago." Mantel followed that of another SuSE co-founder, Richard Seibt. And, last July Petra Heinrich, vice president of partner sales and services left Novell. Heinrich was formerly SuSE's channel leader.
Geck's departure follows the hiring of Jeffrey Jaffe, CTO and executive vice president at Novell.
No SuSE or Ximian executives remain on Novell's worldwide management committee. Of those that came from the acquisition of SuSE and Ximian, Nat Friedman, vice president of Linux desktop engineering, and Miquel de Icaza, vice president for developer technologies, remain.
Geck's departure was not confirmed by Novell.
