Sabre Holdings Corp. said today that it has completed the initial migration of its massive airfare pricing application to Hewlett-Packard Co.'s NonStop server platform.

The migration is part of Sabre's new travel technology platform, the Air Travel Shopping Engine (ATSE), said Michael Berman, a spokesman for the Southlake, Texas-based provider of technology, distribution and marketing services for the travel industry.

Sabre owns travel site Travelocity.com and GetThere, a provider of Web-based travel reservation systems for corporations and travel suppliers.

Berman said the ATSE is a four-year program designed to migrate airfare pricing, schedules and availability from a proprietary mainframe system to the always-on HP NonStop server and database environment. Sabre announced its plan to move its reservation system from mainframes to HP servers about a year ago.

Sabre's airfare pricing application continuously updates 20 million fare and rule records and 1.5 million schedules, providing users with the most up-to-date data in the industry, according to Berman.

Berman said there has been no downtime in the first 60 days on the new HP servers.

He said the next step will be to roll out the system to travel agents and other online sites.

Berman said that because the new system allows Sabre to significantly speed up development time, it plans to rapidly develop new and unique shopping services within the next six to 12 months. In addition, he said, Sabre plans to migrate its other applications, including its customer relationship management program, to the new platform.
