Open-source database vendor EnterpriseDB Wednesday said it has appointed a senior sales executive from Linux vendor Red Hat as its new CEO.
Ed Boyajian will become president, CEO and a member of the board for US-based EnterpriseDB, replacing co-founder Andy Astor, who becomes executive vice president of business development.
Boyajian was vice president and general manager of North American sales for Red Hat, which recorded US$523 million in revenue in its fiscal year 2008 ending in February.
During his six years there, Boyajian helped establish strategic partnerships between Red Hat and hardware vendors including IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Dell while growing its channel business, according to a press release.
EnterpriseDB is a four-year-old, venture capital-funded startup with 225 mostly enterprise customers.
Its products are purportedly compatible with, and cheaper than, Oracle's database. They are based on the open-source PostgreSQL database, a rival to the more-popular MySQL owned by Sun Microsystems.
