Borland this week announced the availability of StarTeam 2008.

StarTeam 2008 is its software platform for coordinating and managing the software delivery process that is designed for centralised and geographically distributed software development environments in enterprise organisations.

The platform offers integrated requirements management, change and configuration management, project and task management, defect tracking, file versioning, threaded discussions and customisable workflows that the company believes will help reduce total cost of ownership and promote communication and collaboration through centralized control of project activities and digital assets.

In a statement released by Borland, the company said StarTeam 2008 maintains a single repository in tandem with remote-cached information as opposed to replicating data, which has the potential for conflicting changes and increased systems overhead.

Borland claims this approach offers significant enhancements to usability and performance for instant access to application lifecycle artifacts, whether teams are distributed around the office or around the world.

"With the majority of companies using distributed development models today, it is critical to maintain a secure, scaleable and reliable infrastructure for change management, while also keeping costs down," said Mark Wilkin, managing director of Borland ANZ.

StarTeam 2008 is the latest addition to Borland's Open Application Lifecycle Management product portfolio.
