Wireless giant Vodafone AirTouch PLC has agreed to acquire CommNet Cellular Inc. of the U.S. for US$764 million in cash, extending its cellular coverage to new areas of the Western United States, the companies said this week. Terms of the acquisition, to be made through Vodafone's AirTouch Cellular subsidiary, also require it to assume about $600 million of CommNet debts. CommNet shareholders will receive $31 per share in cash. The transaction is expected to close in four to five months, the firms said. - +
