Sourcefire
http://www.sourcefire.com/Sourcefire, Inc. an open source innovator and a world leader in network intrusion prevention, is transforming the way organizations manage and
minimize network security risks with its 3D Approach - Discover, Determine, Defend - to securing real networks in real-time. The company's
ground-breaking network defense system unifies intrusion network behavior analysis and vulnerability management technologies to provide
customers with the most effective network security available.
The Sourcefire 3D System provides proactive defense-in-depth through an integrated process of discovering risks, vulnerabilities and threats;
determining their business impact; and taking the appropriate action to defend the network. Sourcefire's 3D System, including Sourcefire
Intrusion Sensors and Agents, Sourcefire RNA Sensors and the Sourcefire Defense Center, provides companies with the most effective security
possible. The Sourcefire 3D System has been awarded both the NSS Approved and the prestigious NSS Gold Awards.
The Sourcefire 3D System offers the most flexible and precise intrusion prevention and network discovery technologies worldwide. Sourcefire
Intrusion Sensors utilize the award-winning Snort rules-based detection engine, bringing the benefits of signature, protocol, and anomaly-
based inspection methods to all network traffic at speeds up to 8 gigabits per second. By tightly integrating and correlating the threat
information provided by Sourcefire Intrusion Sensors and Agents with the network intelligence provided by Sourcefire RNA Sensors, the
Sourcefire Defense Center easily prioritizes the millions of security events to determine the most critical events to an organization's
business and takes the appropriate actions. These actions follow the ABCs of Defense - Alert, Block, Correct - all in real-time to deliver
the most effective security.
Sourcefire created its Real-time Network Awareness™ (RNA) solution to enable organizations to more confidently protect their networks through
a unique patent pending combination of passive network discovery, behavioral profiling, and integrated vulnerability analysis to deliver the
benefits of real-time network profiling and change management without the drawbacks of traditional approaches to identifying network assets
and vulnerabilities. Only the fifth product in history to receive an NSS Gold-rating, RNA is a passive network and endpoint discovery tool
that continuously monitors the network and maintains a persistent inventory of the composition and behavior of every active endpoint on a
network. Compositional details include type, vendor, and version information for all running operating systems, ports, protocols, services,
and network applications. RNA is also able to detect virtually any change in composition or behavior in real-time.
With RNA, Sourcefire customers can also define and set compliance policies for endpoints, subnets, or networks with the click of a mouse. Once
defined, any change outside of policy would result in immediate notification followed by an array of possible corrective actions, including
the sending of an alert, redirection of the asset into a ‘sandbox’ or quarantined network, blocking some or all traffic to or from the asset,
and corrective measures such as patch and configuration management.
In addition to the Sourcefire 3D System, Sourcefire manages Snort®, the open source intrusion prevention and detection technology, which was
created in 1998 by Sourcefire’s founder, Martin Roesch. As the de facto standard in intrusion prevention, Snort is the single most widely
deployed intrusion prevention and detection technology in the world with over 3 million downloads and more than 100,000 active users
worldwide. At work in leading Fortune 1000 and government agencies, the names Sourcefire and founder Martin Roesch have grown synonymous with
innovation and intelligence in network security.
The synergies between Snort and Sourcefire’s commercial innovations have made Sourcefire one of the most successful privately-held security
companies in the industry having garnered more than 18 awards for its technology and business success since the beginning of 2005, including
being named to the Leaders Quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Network Intrusion Prevention System Appliances, 2H05 report. Since the
beginning of the year, the Sourcefire 3D System received top honors at the annual SC Magazine Awards, being named the Best Security Solution
in the U.S., and was recognized as the “Security Product of the Year” at the European NetEvents “Technology Leader” Awards. Sourcefire's
technology was also named Best of the Best in the May issue of Redmond Magazine.
