"The lack of an R18+ classification for electronic games has been linked to an increase in piracy and poor sales of titles that were toned-down to meet Australia’s top M15+ rating."

that comes from a story we did this week after the SA AG said he was more afraid of gamers than bikies...

I'd be very interested to hear from any developers on the topic as I have a feeling the developer community is also not flourishing as it could because one very big market (i.e. R18+ games) is simply not available to develop for locally. Does this mean developers head overseas or does it really not influence things that much?

Not a developer, but would suspect it is more likly the game is developed for a business registered in a different country and then sold in said country. Being developed in a country that the product is not sold in this internet age is proberly not that big of a issue anymore.

"that comes from a story we did this week after the SA AG said he was more afraid of gamers than bikies..." /facepalm.

There's not a big influence here - Australia mostly does kids games and mobile games. Theres a few upcoming development studios that will suffer but otherwise they sell overseas. Hope the AGs can come together on this and stop bowing to the conservative idiots
