I hear that Joomla 1.6 is just out. What are new features being offered?
Hi Davis
There have been quite a few changes in the 1.6 version. First of all, a new access control system has been introduced. This gives the administrators more power and control over the content. Now, it is possible to define who can view or manage the content.
Personally, what I like best is the change introduced in the depth organization model. These guys have finally applied their brains and made it so that the category tree can be user-defined, which means that it can have as many levels as a user wants. It is also possible to create as few levels as you want – and this is what impresses me!
The updating of extensions has also been simplified and made one-click. I have a friend who used to have sleepless nights because of the updating blues – now he can relax and have a good night’s sleep, ha-ha! Hmm . . .
There are also other changes like XHTML layouts, but these were the major ones I was aware of. I also hear that there are improvements in module management, user interface, new templates, as well as enhancements in the SEO area – something we should all benefit from.
Oh, I realize this is becoming more like a tutorial. I’ll stop now! Hope it helped.

Improving performance and availability was the key driver of consolidation efforts for 85% of those surveyed.
