Hi
I am starting Cloud Computing projects in a company. This is just startup phase for the project.
I need to prepare consolidated plan for the project. i.e. what a
company will achieve in 2 weeks, 3 weeks…month (with open source).
Can you suggest where can I start with cloud computing project for a
IT company? How should company proceed with different cloud computing
milestones?
What is the cloud computing area where I can get more customers?
Any help is appreciated.
Thnx

When we say cloud computing projects there are a variety of things that can be possible :
-
Enabling some of the existing products to work with the cloud. i.e. when some of your resources are in the cloud or rest of your data in at your premises.
-
Enabling an existing project to work in the cloud : This is about porting a product to work in a IaaS platform like Amazon EC2,RackSpace, gogrid. etc.
-
Developing a product using some of the existing cloud providers which give Platform as a service. : For example Amazon,SalesForce.com,GoogleApp Engine,Microsoft Azure.
-
Creating your own cloud infrastructure .
Some of the key aspects that need to be considered when you are building a cloud application are how to make your application a truly scalable, elastic, secure,Fault resilient, stateless design, Highly parallel etc. Read More here :

In my opinion some of the above three areas you could find some good customers in the 3rd area where you could develop some quick portals for some of the customers. These sites can be built from scratch in almost no time with the in built capabilities of the Platform ( Google Apps in one such free platform)
Other areas as mentioned above could be about making some of the existing products to work coherently with the cloud infrastructure at the same time it could well be about porting projects which would be about porting the existing products into the cloud and at the same time ensure that exploits all the capabilities provided by vendors like amazon to make a truly scalable cloud product.

You're serious? Someone's suggested you just start a random "cloud project"? Damn I knew that space was overhyped but that's ridiculous. Hey hire me...I could be a contractor. A cloud contractor. My rate's $1500 a day plus expenses mwahhhhahahaa

Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems have outlined a Trusted Cloud Computing Platform that "enables Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) providers such as Amazon EC2 to provide a closed box execution environment that guarantees confidential execution of guest virtual machines." Such a platform would assure customers that service providers haven't been messing with their data and would enable service providers to secure data even across many VMs. The researchers, in a paper titled "Towards Trusted Cloud Computing," acknowledge that details of how cloud providers set up their data centers is held pretty close to the vest, but base their system on an open source offering called Eucalyptus that they suspect is similar to at least some commercial implementations. A prototype based on the design is this research team's next step.
