Some of the chief operating officers and general managers we've spoken to recently have agreed that contractors were probably the softest hit when it came to the economic downturn and scaling back. Of course, when it comes to scaling back IT projects, there will always be a smaller pool of clients to choose from, but choosing from multiple clients is likely to be a better choice than sticking with one company and possibly being made redundant.
What do you think - is it time to be a contractor again in IT?

As an IT Recruiter in Canberra, there won't be a better time for those who were forced to take permanent roles to go back to contracting.

If you live in Brisbane and are trying to find a role in IT, its almost impossible to get a permanent role. Some are starting to find the confidence to employ permanent staff, while others are still offering 2 or 3 month contracts. its great if you are looking for quick money, or just not interested in trying to build your way up through a company. But its a negative attitude towards building a strong team and retaining a skillset. I say bring back permanency!

What impact will the budget have in Canberra? In an election year? Still a good time to go contracting?
