Ever wish you had a personal assistant? Someone who could recommend a good restaurant when you're traveling to a new city? Someone who could give you a list of shops where you might find that perfect gift?

The University of Queensland Union (UQU) will deploy a new retail solution for 17 retail and eateries across its three campuses, based on locally developed technology.

Voice over IP is slowly but surely making strides at organizations far and wide. According to Infonetics Research, 36 percent of large organizations were already using VOIP products and services in 2005. And a few are embracing the full promise of VOIP, which is the creative integration of voice and data in ways that change the way people work.

There is no killer app, but there are four killer business cases where voice and data integration is transforming the way things get done.

I'm sitting at home on a Saturday morning writing this column while listening to the "Hillbilly at Harvard" show on WHRB, Harvard's student-run radio station. The show is on every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and is one of the best radio shows of its type anywhere. But after 1 p.m., it is really hard to find reasonable country music in the Boston area. The local station that claims to be a country music station seems to pride itself on not playing any song older than its listeners and, based on the banter of the announcers, assumes the average listener is about 7 years old. This is a real letdown after the announcers on WHRB.

We should have known we were in for some weirdness at CA World here this week when the airplane landed and the flight attendant, who had used a variety of bad accents each time he made an announcement, welcomed us to New Orleans, only to be followed by word from the cockpit that we were in Baton Rouge, some 80 miles north of our destination.

McDonald's Corp. President and Vice Chairman James R. Cantalupo announced today that the Oak Brook, Ill.-based fast-food giant is investing in Food.com, an Internet-based food takeout and delivery service, calling it "an investment in the future."
