Telenor Restructures for International Focus

LONDON (02/11/2000) - With an eye toward privatization, Norway's Telenor AS is reorganizing its operations structure with the addition of business area managers to its corporate management team, the telecommunications company announced today.

Beginning Feb. 15, Telenor corporate management will consist of 12 members, with Tormod Hermansen continuing his duties as chief executive officer, the company said in a statement.

Business area mangers include managers for Telenor Norway; International Centre; Telenor Mobile Communication; Telenor Nett; Nextra; TV-Distribution and Satellite; Service and Installation; and Directories, Telenor said.

The mission of the International Centre team is to prepare and drive its international activities, focusing on the markets in Western Europe, Central Europe, Russia and South East Asia, Telenor said.

In related news, through its IP (Internet Protocol) business communications services provider, Nextra AS, Telenor bought the German ISP (Internet service provider) Seicom GmbH, the company announced yesterday in a separate statement.

The Norwegian telecommunications company did not disclose the financial details of the purchase. Telenor's Nextra has bought three German business-focused ISPs in the last three months, Telenor said.

Telenor, in Oslo, can be contacted at +47-22-77-60-60, or at http://www.telenor.com/. Seicom can be reached at http://www.seicom.net/.
