WASHINGTON (07/31/2000) - What Does EDS Know?

Margaret Evans, the acting deputy associate director for national security at the Office of Management and Budget, leaves her job next month to join Electronic Data Systems Corp.'s federal office in Herndon, Va., where she'll handle information assurance and intelligence.

Evans, who has 20 years in the federal government - including 13 in the CIA, where she ran counterterrorism, counterintelligence and covert action operations - is the latest high-ranking official to join the high-tech company.

She follows former Agriculture CIO Anne Reed and Carla von Bernewitz, the former CIO at the Defense Logistics Agency.

Tempting Temptations

W.J. "Billy" Tauzin (R-La.), chairman of the telecommunications subcommittee of the House's Commerce Committee and a longtime friend of the communications industry, will have his own celebration this week at the Republican Convention in Philadelphia.

Being billed as a blast with the past, the bash will feature the '60s Motown group The Temptations. Tauzin, whose committee handles everything from satellites to the future of broadband, is the honored guest. And who is picking up the tab? It wouldn't be the telecom industry, would it?
