CA Sells Sterling to Northrup Grumman for $150 M

Los Angeles-based defense contractor Northrup Grumman Corp. announced today that it has agreed to purchase Computer Associates International Inc.'s Sterling Software Inc. for US$150 million.

Northrup Grumman said it would incorporate Sterling into its Logicon unit in Herndon, Virginia, which had revenue of about $1.5 billion last year. If approved, the deal is expected to be completed by the end of next month.

The announcement comes about one month after Islandia, New York-based CA announced a major restructuring as well as plans to shed some of its software units. Based in McLean, Virginia, Sterling Software had revenue of $159 million last year. The firm sells information systems to intelligence, government and space agencies.
