Packeteer Shatters Gigabit Barrier for Layer 7 WAN Traffic Management

~ New 10000 Series appliance delivers market leading Quality of Service capabilities for demanding enterprise networks ~

SYDNEY, Australia -- November 2, 2004 -- Packeteer®, Inc. (NASDAQ: PKTR), the pioneer and global leader in Application Traffic Management, has extended its high end performance with the new 10000 Series, offering the industry's most powerful platform for managing WAN application traffic. Available immediately, the 10000 Series delivers full duplex 1 Gbps throughput and can be quickly and easily deployed to provide the application visibility, control and acceleration capabilities required for WAN QoS.

Unlike competitive point solutions, the 10000 Series scales to 1 Gbps while maintaining full Layer 7 intelligence with rate shaping, centralised management and full reporting. Accurate and reliable classification is the crucial measure of performance, and the 10000 Series delivers much more than just a fast link speed. "The 10000 Series sets a new standard in real world application traffic management and will have strong appeal to customers that have high capacity WAN links today or want headroom for future growth," said Peter Owen, Territory Manager, Australia & New Zealand for Packeteer.

The 10000 can forward traffic at gigabit rates, concurrently manage QoS for thousands of classes of traffic, collect over one hundred performance metrics for each class, and compress traffic to hundreds of sites. Combining granularity, flexibility and performance, the 10000 is the most powerful traffic management solution on the market. The bandwidth and rich features will have broad appeal for enterprise and education customers supporting bandwidth-intensive applications, as well as ISPs that need to carefully manage traffic to meet SLA requirements for their customers.

Capabilities include: * Highest true Layer 7 performance at 1 Gbps full duplex * Improved serviceability with hot swappable power supply and field replaceable redundant fan unit * Enterprise and ISP editions available with packet shaping for 310, 622 and 1,000 Mbps link speeds * High throughput compression available with optional PacketShaper Xpress

The 10000 Series supports Packeteer 7.0, announced today in a separate news release, which provides the full range of Application Traffic Management functionality, including automated classification of hundreds of applications, real-time application and networking monitoring, extensive QoS and bandwidth policy controls, intelligent compression capabilities, and flexible reporting options.

For broadband ISPs, universities and high capacity state networks, the 10000 Series provides industry leading traffic identification and bi-directional control. With peer-to-peer and other traffic threatening broadband business economics, the 10000 now provides scalability to address even the most challenging issues. Packeteer's patented Rate Control technology can choke P2P traffic before it gets onto the network, making Packeteer the only solution to effectively manage both inbound and outbound P2P traffic.

The 10000 Series is available immediately from authorised Packeteer reseller and service provider partners worldwide. Pricing starts at $US36,000.

ABOUT PACKETEER Packeteer®, Inc., (NASDAQ: PKTR) is the global market leader in Application Traffic Management for wide area networks.
