Plaspak Group Moulds Software Future with Intentia’s Java ERP
 03 November, 2004 14:07

Intentia Australia has won a new contract worth up to AUD$1million in revenue, with Plaspak Group Limited- a leading Australian specialist manufacturer and distributor of rigid plastic packaging and components which are supplied to domestic and overseas markets.

Intentia has been selected over competitors such as MAPICS, Great Plains and Axapta, to roll out its Movex 12 Java system.

Plaspak – a plastics packaging supplier to major companies within a range of diverse industries made a strategic decision to replace its current platform and range of legacy systems (which have resulted from former acquisitions) with a modern, robust, integrated technology platform.

The move came as part of the implementation of Plaspak’s risk management framework which incorporated plans to standardise its systems and increase collaboration capabilities for staff across businesses within the Group. To enhance supply chain efficiencies, to provide transparency of information for management and to secure a solution capable of meeting its growing business needs.

“Our need became increasingly evident as the result of a number of acquisitions Plaspak made over recent years, as part of its strong growth strategy. We found ourselves with an expanding array of diverse, home grown systems or older applications that we felt couldn’t support the business long term,” said Steve Westerweller, Purchasing Manager, Plaspak Group.

“What resulted was a carefully considered evaluation process, looking at what was needed to meet our existing needs and future processes, before pinpointing the right opportunity to transition our numerous applications to one single enterprise platform,” he said.

“Over a two year period we explored many market offerings, from the largest more complex tier one systems, down to the smallest boutique tier three solutions providers. The most important factor for us was not so much timeliness in finding a solution, but ensuring we found the right software for our business from the outset. It was an important investment for us and one that will be in place for many years to come – we wanted a long term reliable business partner. We felt Movex best satisfied our requirements”.

“Intentia gives us the mid-market fit and business approach we were looking for, the right level of product functionality, a pure open standards Java platform, and a committed team with whom we have already built a strong relationship during the process,” continued Westerweller.

The new solution will help Plaspak consolidate its group systems to provide commonality of workplace, increase visibility of information across the business, enhance management reporting and decision making abilities, improve supply and distribution efficiencies, and meet its requirements for a future proof technology platform to protect Plaspak’s investment in the long term.

“These sorts of achievements will make us a much stronger company and render Plaspak capable of enhanced response to change and customer demands. Assuring timeliness of delivery, innovation and reliability in all facets of our business and sound management practices are critical commitments for Plaspak - this transition will assist us in continuing to deliver on those quality service levels and to remain highly competitive in the market,” he finished.

Steve Ironside, Managing Director, Intentia Australia and New Zealand adds, “Intentia has strong expertise in this industry sector, and Movex’s functionality is second to none. We are looking forward to developing even closer partnership ties with Plaspak as a new customer for us in this industry, and delivering fully on the trust they have placed in us.”

The project is anticipated to go live by April 2005.
