Reservation computer systems operator Amadeus Global Travel Distribution has aligned with online travel agent Travel.com.au (TVL) to develop e-commerce solutions for regional tourism industries.
The $9.93 million deal forms a wide-ranging strategic alliance through which Atlas Travel Technologies, the wholly-owned Australian and New Zealand subsidiary of Madrid-based Amadeus, will offer Internet content technologies, m-commerce (mobile phone technology) and e-commerce solutions to complement TVL's IT development group.
Under the agreement Travel.com.au will boost its e-commerce strategy by partnering with local businesses with a "strong market presence, leading brands and travel expertise", allowing them to capitalise on Amadeus' technology offerings. Amadeus has a 19 per cent stake in the alliance.
The companies said the alliance assures Amadeus and Atlas of solid business opportunities in the AP and trans-Tasman regions, due to a merging of "complementary" skill sets and technology. "Together we will work together to build Asia Pacific's premiere online travel service," said David Tonkin, Travel.com.au chief executive
