Customers complain after getting access to other people’s voicemail messages

Virgin Mobile has confirmed a problem with its voicemail system, with customers reporting they have been given access to other people’s voicemail messages.

“We are aware of an issue impacting some voicemail accounts,” a spokesperson for the telco said.

“We take the privacy and security of our customers very seriously and all hands are on deck to investigate and resolve the issue.”

CNET was the first to break the news of the privacy snafu.

Customers have complained about the issue on the telco’s Facebook page.

“When trying to retrieve a voicemail message this morning, I continuously kept reaching other people's voicemail inboxes,” one customer wrote.

“I think there is an issue with the voicemails. I tried to access my voicemail and I keep on getting other peoples. Not happy if other people are listening to my voicemails,” another posted.

Update at 3.35pm: Virgin Mobile says the problem is now resolved.

“The issue with our voicemail service experienced by some customers earlier today is now resolved,” a spokesperson said. “When we became aware of the issue, we deactivated our voicemail service whilst our team investigated and reactivated this when we were confident the issue was resolved. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. Any customers still experiencing difficulties may need to turn their phone off and on again.”
