From November 3, Australian councils will be able to access a free online library that allows them to share processes such as building consents, wastewater management, environmental health and liquor licensing.
The Local Government Shared Process Library includes over 1,000 processes such as dealing with land information, parking, libraries, museums, compliance and customer service. The processes have been submitted by councils around Australia such as Port Stephens Council in New South Wales.
According to Port Stephens Council business systems support manager Zoe Pattison, sharing good processes and practices with councils all across Australia will extend the community of learning from each other.
“We have every reason to share these processes with other councils, and no reason not to,” she said in a statement.
Council staff can use the library to search for and view processes in map and procedure form. They can than print, share, download and deploy the processes. Council staff can also assess the quality of their existing processes against other councils.
The library has been developed in conjunction with business process management software provider Promapp.
“Anyone with a council email address will be able to access the Local Government Shared Process Library Australia,” said Promapp co-founder Ivan Seselj.
“The 1,000 processes represent the results of many thousands of hours of analysis, documentation and review. Councils will be able to use the library to gain detailed insights into the way other councils operate and improve their own processes, performance and customer service,” he said.
Council staff can request access to the library through Promapp's website.
