j2 Global acquires Web24 Group for undisclosed sum

Acquisition of Melbourne company will complement cloud services business, says j2 CEO Hemi Zucker

Melbourne based IT services provider, Web24 Group, has been acquired by United States cloud services provider j2 Global (NASDAQGS: JCOM) for an undisclosed sum.

Web24 offers domain name, Web hosting and security services to Australian organisations including Australia Post, Kmart, RMIT University and Foster’s Group.

j2 Global operates a business cloud services division with services such as Internet fax, unified communications and customer relationship management (CRM) offerings. It also has a digital media division which operates technology news sites such as PCMag.com.

According to j2 Global CEO Hemi Zucker, the Web24 acquisition is a “natural extension” of the company’s business cloud services. It will also provide the infrastructure required to expand Web24’s business into new countries through organic growth or via future acquisitions.

“All data for Web24’s Australian customers will continue to be stored exclusively in Australia,” he said in a statement.

Web24 general manager Melinda Munns told Computerworld Australia that it is “business as usual” and all of its services will remain the same.

“We will ensure that our customers receive the same level of service that they have expected in the past. j2 love what we are doing and have told us to continue as usual,” she said.

Web24 employs 25 staff. No redundancies are expected as a result of the acquisition.

If the company experiences growth in the future, its staff headcount may rise, she added.
